Accommodation Hakuba Accommodation

With Hakuba accommodation spread across a long valley that comprises 10 separate ski resorts, choosing the right base area is an important part of the booking process. To help simplify this, we have created individual Hakuba area guides that break down the location, access and accommodation types in each base area.

Three of the most commonly chosen accommodation areas are centred around Happo One and Hakuba 47. Wadano is a quieter residential area close to the Happo One lifts, offering a higher concentration of premium chalets and hotels. Happo Village is the most central base, with the widest range of accommodation and easy access to lifts, transport and village facilities. Echoland sits between Happo One and Hakuba 47 and offers a large selection of hotels, apartments and chalets within walking distance of restaurants and bars.

For more detail on each area, you can explore our dedicated guides:

Happo One Accommodation Guide (Wadano and Happo Village)

Hakuba offers a wide range of accommodation styles to suit different group sizes, budgets and preferences, from traditional Japanese inns to modern hotels, apartments and private chalets. Below is an overview of the main accommodation types available in the valley.

Ryokan (Japanese-Style Inns)

Ryokan are traditional Japanese inns and remain a popular accommodation choice in Hakuba. These properties typically feature tatami flooring, futon bedding and shared or private onsen (hot spring) bathing facilities. Many ryokan also offer meal plans featuring traditional Japanese cuisine. Ryokan accommodation is most commonly found in the Happo Village area, with a smaller number located in other parts of the valley.

Options range from classic family-run properties to boutique ryokan offering higher-end rooms and private onsen baths. Hakuba Hifumi is an example of a boutique ryokan with private open-air baths in selected rooms, while Taigakukan offers a centrally located traditional stay in Happo Village.

Western-Style Hotels

Hakuba also offers a strong selection of Western-style hotels, providing private bathrooms, Western bedding and modern facilities. These properties typically offer larger rooms, on-site restaurants, shuttle services and spa or onsen facilities. Examples include Hakuba Tokyu Hotel, Sierra Resort and Mominoki Hotel.

Self-Catered Apartments and Chalets

Self-catered accommodation in Hakuba includes apartments, townhouses and private chalets, offering more space and privacy for families and groups. Many properties provide full kitchens, living areas and optional concierge services. Some also include shuttles or vehicle access.

Mountain Side Hakuba offers ski-in ski-out apartments next to the Happo One lifts, while Alpinarc Chalet provides large-group chalet accommodation with onsen facilities. Koharu Resort offers studio to three-bedroom apartments close to the Sakka beginner slopes.

Our team will advise on the most suitable accommodation type and location based on your group size, travel dates and preferred base area.
