Frequently Asked Questions
Do ski instructors in Hakuba speak English?
Yes. Lessons are conducted in English.
What qualifications do the instructors have?
All instructors hold a minimum Level 1 certification from an internationally accredited organisation such as CSIA, NZSIA, APSI, BASI, CASI, or an equivalent recognised qualification. Many instructors exceed these requirements.
Should I choose private lessons or group lessons?
Private lessons offer the fastest progress and flexible scheduling with one-on-one instruction. Group lessons are more affordable and provide a social learning environment. Beginners and families often prefer private lessons, while confident learners usually choose group lessons.
How early should I book ski lessons in Hakuba?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for peak travel periods. Lesson availability and timing can be limited during busy weeks over Christmas, New Year and through January.
Do I need to arrange lift passes and equipment before my lesson?
Yes. Lift passes and ski hire are not included in lesson prices. These should be arranged in advance so you are ready to start your lesson on time.
What age can children start ski or snowboard lessons?
Typically from three years old. Specific age requirements vary by school and lesson/programme type.
Where do Hakuba ski lessons meet?
Meeting locations vary by provider and programme.
Can I add ski lessons after booking my accommodation?
Yes. You can add ski school bookings via Japan Ski Experience before you arrive.
