When should I book Hakuba accommodation?
Peak season dates, particularly January and February, sell out fast. Bookings typically open between March and June for the following winter season. Booking early gives you access to the widest selection and best available rates.
Can I book lift passes, ski hire and lessons separately after booking accommodation?
Yes. Accommodation should be booked first as it sells out fastest. Resort add-ons can be booked closer to your travel dates once suppliers open availability for the season.

Where should I stay if I want easy lift access?
Hakuba has a wide choice of ski-in/ski-out and slopeside accommodation. If you are looking for easy lift access from a major base area, Happo One and Wadano offer many such properties. Alternatively if you are looking for easy lift access from a quieter ski area, Iwatake, Tsugaike and Norikura have an ever-increasing choice of slopeside accommodation.
How easy is it to get to Hakuba train station?
Hakuba station is a five minute drive from the village centre and is serviced by the Hakuba Valley inter-resort shuttle bus on Line V2, and the Happo and Iwatake Resort Shuttle on Line E. Many properties offer a pick-up and drop-off service for convenient resort arrivals and departures.
Which is the best area for non-skier family members?
Happo One is a great choice for non-skiers, with shops, cafés and local onsen within walking distance, as well as excellent transport connections and departures for many off-mountain activities. Echoland is another lively option, offering Hakuba’s largest concentration of restaurants and bars, with convenient shuttle connections from Hakuba Base Camp.
Where should I stay if I want nightlife and dining?
Happo One and Echoland have the largest concentration of restaurants, bars and après-ski venues within walking distance. These areas suit guests who want a lively village atmosphere alongside convenient village and ski resort access.
Do I need to rent a car if I stay outside of the Happo area?
No. The Hakuba Valley Shuttle Bus connects all the resort areas, and each resort has its own village shuttle that stops off at the lifts. For those looking to explore Hakuba Valley and the surrounding area, hiring a car offers greater freedom and flexibility, but drivers should be comfortable with snowy, icy and potentially blizzard conditions and, in most cases, will need an International Driving Permit.
Can you help me choose the best area to stay?
Yes. Our ski accommodation specialists provide honest, local advice and can book the perfect place to stay based on your travel dates, group size, budget and priorities. Submit an enquiry and a member of our Hakuba team will be in touch.
