Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Hakuba Valley Pass and an individual resort pass?
An individual resort pass is cheaper but provides access to one ski area only. A Hakuba Valley Pass allows access to all ten Hakuba ski resorts and includes unlimited use of the Hakuba Valley shuttle buses, offering greater flexibility if conditions vary between resorts.
Should I pre-book lift passes or buy them on the day?
You should pre-book lift passes as it allows you to avoid ticket queues and head straight to the lifts. Lift passes can be purchased as an add-on after booking your Hakuba accommodation with Japan Ski Experience and are delivered to your accommodation before arrival.
Are there discounted lift passes for children?
Yes. Child pricing is available:
- Ages 6–10: ¥6,000 per day
- Under 6: free (under 3 at Jigatake and Kashimayari)
Are Hakuba lift passes refundable?
No. Once purchased, tickets cannot be cancelled or refunded.
Can I buy a pass for individual resorts?
Yes, although most people buy a Hakuba Valley Pass which allows greater flexibility of resort choice.
Where can I ski with a Hakuba Valley pass?
Hakuba Valley Passes are valid across all ten Hakuba ski resorts.
Do Hakuba Valley Passes include night skiing?
No. Night skiing is not included. Separate passes must be purchased at ticket counters for resorts that offer night skiing: Goryu, Happo-One, Tsugaike, and Cortina.
If I buy a multi day Hakuba lift pass, do I have to use it on consecutive days?
No. Hakuba Valley All-Mountain Passes are issued with a use window, allowing you to use your ski days over a set period rather than on consecutive days. For example, a 5-day pass may be used within 10 days of its activation, giving flexibility for rest days or poor weather. Rules for individual resort passes may differ.
What happens if I ski out of bounds?
Skiing outside designated resort boundaries may result in lift pass confiscation. Backcountry access is only permitted through official gates marked on the official trail maps. Hiring a guide is strongly recommended.
