Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort will open the 2025–26 winter season with a newly renovated base center and several other new features for visitors.
Base Center Renewal
Towards the ‘powder end’ of the valley lies Iwatake, one of Hakuba’s most up and coming ski areas! Having had a brand new gondola built last season, the base center is now being renovated inside and out, with a brighter, more open design and improved facilities. Alongside the ticket counter and shop, the building now includes new changing rooms and lockers, as well as a rental store.

New this season at the top of the resort is the Goma Art Room, an indoor space in the Sky Ark decorated entirely by Japanese artist “Goma”. With immersive artwork inspired by Hakuba’s landscapes and characters, it’s designed to be enjoyed throughout the year by visitors. Goma is also a musician, winning awards for his mastery of the Didgeridoo and is renowned for his use of art to overcome adversity.

The base center overhaul at Iwatake alongside last season’s new gondola makes it one of the most active redevelopment projects in the Hakuba Valley. Iwatake Resort has been progressively adding new facilties including the Hakuba Mountain Harbour, a terrace overlooking the Hakuba Valley from the top of the resort. The terrace also features a store from the popular bakery chain “City Bakery”, with freshly baked pastries, sandwiches and snacks.
