Frequently Asked Questions
What is resort guiding?
Resort guiding focuses on helping you explore the mountain efficiently, finding the best snow, tree runs, and terrain on the day. It is not a lesson and does not include technical skill instruction.
Is Rusutsu guiding suitable for snowboarders and skiers together?
Yes. Skiers and snowboarders can be guided together in the same private group, making resort guiding ideal for mixed groups and families.
Do resort guides go off-piste in Rusutsu?
Yes. While guiding stays within the boundaries of Rusutsu Resort, guides access tree skiing and lift-accessed powder terrain beyond groomed runs where conditions and ability allow.
How many people can join a guided group?
Each private group can include up to 6 guests. The guide tailors the day to your group’s ability level and goals.
When should I book Rusutsu ski or snowboard guiding?
Guiding should be booked in advance once your Rusutsu accommodation is confirmed. Daily guides are limited and often book out during peak season.
Do I need previous experience?
For resort guiding, intermediate ability is recommended at a minimum, as this will allow you to ride a variety of terrain on your tour.
Do I need a lift pass for guided days?
Yes. A lift pass is not included, and is required for all resort guiding.
Do I need powder specific skis or snowboard?
It’s not a requirement, but often recommended. Powder skis and boards are easier to ride in Japan’s deep snow and greatly improve performance and enjoyment.
