Rusutsu Restaurants

Whether you are looking for a casual izakaya meal or a high-end French fusion dinner, Rusutsu restaurants have got you covered. Packed inside Rusutsu Resort Hotel and Westin Rusutsu Resort are more than 30 restaurants, offering a vast array of cuisine without you having to step foot outside, but if you prefer smaller local establishments, read on to know more about our Hokkaido team’s hand-picked favourites. In-Resort Restaurants

The majority of Rusutsu restaurants are gathered around the base of West Mt where The Vale Rusutsu and Rusutsu Resort Hotel are located, however there are a few options further away if you are looking to explore some of the off-the-beaten-path establishments.

  • cafe La queue crochet Cafe

    Pension Clydesdale, 55-15 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    Just outside of the stunning Villa Rusutsu complex is cafe La queue crochet, a cosy cafe with juicy Japanese karaage (fried chicken) and fluffy pancakes with various toppings, made better with lovely staff! Sit back and enjoy a slow lunch whilst watching the snowfall through their expansive windows. Takeaway options available.

  • Pirateman Izakaya

    35-9 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    A classic izakaya located on the foothills of West Mt run by a lovely chef who honed his cooking skills travelling around Europe. Always spotted with a bandana on his head, he is nicknamed Pirateman by his regular patrons, which then inspired the naming of the restaurant.

  • Rusutsu Pizza-do Pizzeria

    Michinoeki 230 Rusutsu, 127-191 Rusutsu

    Located in Rusutsu’s roadside station, Rusutsu Pizza-do serves more than 15 types of pizzas, including creative combinations such as smoked salmon and asparagus but also classic options like margherita. This Rusutsu restaurant also offers simple yet delicious pork rice bowls using juicy Rusutsu pork. Located just a few minutes away from either West Mt or East Mt, this is the perfect place to refuel after a big morning on the slopes!

  • Tanpopo Shokudo Izakaya

    24 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    Tanpopo Shokudo is one of the best Rusutsu restaurants to have a taste of delightful Hokkaido seafood. Indulge in a kaisen-don topped with rich sea urchin, soft and buttery eel, or melty tuna. Tanpopo also serves your usual izakaya food items such as fried chicken, gyoza, and yakitori so there is something for everyone! The lady who runs the restaurant will welcome you and make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.

  • The Red House Japanese-European Fusion

    144 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    Tucked behind the convenience store Seicomart, The Red House offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere amid snowy nights in Rusutsu. Featuring a mixture of Japanese and Western dishes, diners can enjoy a great variety of food, including shabu shabu and grilled lamb, as well as a good selection of Japanese sake and spirits.

  • Uo-teru Izakaya

    24 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    Newly opened in December 2022, Uo-teru brings elevated casual izakaya dining to Rusutsu for a sensational dining experience filled with perfectly-cooked food and homey ambience. Don’t miss their delicious pork shabu shabu!

  • Yo-chan Izakaya

    24 Izumikawa, Rusutsu

    Situated at the foot of West Mt, this popular Rusutsu restaurant serves hot pot and barbecue, perfect for a cold winter night! Certain menu items need to be ordered in advance, including Hokkaido’s lamb BBQ, lamb shabu shabu, and pork shabu shabu, and there are also meal plans that come with all-you-can-drink deals. Book ahead!

Kimobetsu

Only 10 minutes away by car from Rusutsu, restaurants in Kimobetsu offer great alternatives to Rusutsu restaurants and an insight into local dining culture.

  • Kikoz Japanese-Middle Eastern Fusion

    332-3 Fushimi, Kimobetsu

    Run by the smiley Kiko-san, Kikoz puts together the wonderful combination of Hokkaido’s fresh ingredients and Middle Eastern flavours. The falafels here are a must-try but the daily specials are also very delicious! Vegetarian and vegan options available.

  • Nakamura-ya Izakaya

    197-1 Kimobetsu

    A long-standing establishment in the centre of Kimobetsu, this izakaya can be easily accessed from Rusutsu. Both counter seats and traditional Japanese floor seating are available. Their zangi, or Hokkaido fried chicken, will keep you ordering more but don’t miss out on the chance to try their special deep-fried yam!

  • Potato Inn Papa Japanese-European Fusion

    2-5 Shiribetsu, Kimobetsu

    Set in a cosy cottage, Potato Inn Papa has been delivering a Japanese twist to European dishes for more than 30 years. Enjoy a variety of dishes featuring raclette cheese and local potatoes.

Kyogoku

A quick 15-minute drive from Rusutsu will take you to Kyogoku, a quaint town to the west of Mt. Yotei. Kyogoku’s culinary scene is often shadowed by bigger towns nearby but there can be hidden gems that are on par with the amazing Rusutsu restaurants.

  • le mantaro Bistro

    470-3 Koshin, Kyogoku

    Offering impeccable ambiance, attentive service, and one of the best views of Mt Yotei, le mantaro is worth the drive from Rusutsu if you are looking for an intimate dining experience with exquisite dishes. Reservations are prioritised during lunch hours and required for dinner so make sure to book ahead!
