Renting a car in Hakuba

For the ultimate freedom and flexibility on your Hakuba ski trip, a car rental (or car hire) could be a great option. Guests planning to stay only in Happo Village or Wadano may not need one, however, renting a car in other areas, including Misorano, Echoland, Hakuba47, Goryu, Tsugaike, and Cortina, can be very useful. There are many attractions other than mountain resorts that only a vehicle can get to as well, including a wide variety of dining experiences and secluded onsens. After the sun sets, nightlife is also much more easily within reach in parts of Echoland, Happo One, Wadano, and around Hakuba Station.

Please keep in mind that we highly recommend picking up the car in Hakuba or within the Nagano area, rather than renting one in Tokyo and then driving up to Hakuba. One of the main reasons is that snow tires and 4WD are essential for driving in and around Hakuba, options that can be difficult to find in much warmer Tokyo.

If you are making your way from Tokyo to Hakuba, click here for step-by-step instructions on how to make your way using public transportation. Japan Ski Experience also offers Tokyo to Hakuba transfers, as part of a Hakuba accommodation booking.

Once in Hakuba, below is a list of the best car rental companies in the area.
