Getting around Hakuba just got a lot easier. Uber Japan has signed a partnership agreement with Hakuba Village to launch Uber Taxi for the winter season, running from 1st December to 31st March, meaning you can now book a ride straight to the lifts from your Hakuba accommodation using the Uber app you already have on your phone.
Hakuba welcomed over 1.13 million visitors between November 2023 and February 2024, the highest number in twenty years, with international arrivals up sharply on the previous season. Getting a taxi during peak times has long been one of the valley’s biggest frustrations, especially for overseas visitors unfamiliar with local dispatch systems.
Dom Taylor, Uber’s General Manager for Mobility in Asia-Pacific, said he’s confident the initiative will make Hakuba, already a beautiful and beloved destination, even more convenient and appealing for tourists. He added that Uber wants to help establish a model case for solving regional transportation challenges across Japan.

Hakuba Village Mayor Toshiro Maruyama welcomed the partnership too, noting the village hopes the collaboration will help tackle secondary transportation issues and ease labor shortages through digital tools.
The service is run in collaboration with local operators including Alpico Taxi, Hakuba Kanko Taxi, Alps Daiichi Kotsu, Azumino Daiichi Kotsu, and Minami An Taxi. It covers key areas across the village, including ski resorts, restaurants, and sightseeing spots, and runs 24 hours a day. Around 50 vehicles are part of the fleet, some with Hakuba-branded wraps, and the app supports over 50 languages, so communicating with your driver won’t be a barrier.
