Bus Transfers (New Chitose Airport ⇄ Rusutsu)
Shared bus transfers are the most popular way to travel between New Chitose Airport and Rusutsu. Services operate throughout the winter season with drop-off and pick-up at designated points within Rusutsu Resort. Bookings are not yet available and are expected to open in September or October.
2025–26 Shared Bus Transfer Rates (One Way):
- Ages 12+: ¥5,500
- Ages 3–11: ¥4,500
- Ages 0–2: Free (no seat)

Bus Transfer Flight Timing Guidelines
Shared bus transfers work best when your flight arrival or departure falls within the standard operating windows below. If your flight does not align, a private transfer is usually required to get to your Rusutsu accommodation.
Arrivals (into New Chitose Airport)
- Before 16:30 international or 17:05 domestic (Tue, Thu, Fri, Sun)
- Before 18:10 international or 18:45 domestic (Mon, Wed, Sat)
Departures (from New Chitose Airport)
- After 12:45 international
- After 11:40 domestic
Bus availability varies by day and season. These timings are practical guidelines based on winter road conditions and minimum connection times. If you are unsure, our team will advise the most suitable option.
New Chitose Airport ⇄ Rusutsu Private Transfers
Private transfers provide door-to-door service direct to your Rusutsu accommodation. They are the most flexible option and ideal for:
- Families travelling with children
- Early or late flight arrivals and departures
- Flights that do not match bus schedules
2026–27 Private Transfer Rates (One Way)
Rates are per vehicle, based on passenger numbers. Pricing below is indicative and may vary by provider. For full details on pricing and terms and conditions, please contact our team.
- 1–2 people: From ¥39,000
- 3–8 people: From ¥49,000
- 9–15 people: From ¥99,000
Note: a late-night/early-morning surcharge may apply. For 1–8 passenger vehicles, this applies to departures between 21:00 and 6:59. For 9–15 passenger vehicles, this applies to departures between 21:00 and 7:59. Please contact our team for details.
Rusutsu Car Rental (Optional)
Advanced reservation is not required, but guests can submit an online application form ahead of time to make the pick-up process quicker on the day of collection.
Daily rental prices range from ¥12,500 to ¥18,000 depending on the size and type. Rental cars can be collected at New Chitose Airport and have:
- Winter tyres
- Optional child seats
- Optional ETC card (toll payments)
Note: an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required to drive in Japan. The above rates are from the 2025–26 winter season and may change for 2026–27.

What is the best way to get from New Chitose Airport to Rusutsu?
Most guests choose a shared bus transfer for value and convenience. Private transfers are best for families, groups, or flight times that do not align with bus schedules.
Can I book airport transfers without booking accommodation?
Airport transfers are available for guests who have booked Rusutsu accommodation with Japan Ski Experience. Transfers can be added after your accommodation booking is confirmed.
How long does the transfer from New Chitose Airport to Rusutsu take?
Travel time is typically around 2 hours by road, depending on snow and traffic conditions.
Do you offer direct transfers to my accommodation?
Yes. Private transfers are direct to your accommodation. Shared bus transfers use designated drop-off points within Rusutsu.
If my flight doesn’t match the bus schedule, what are my options?
If the bus schedule does not suit your arrival or departure time, the best alternative is usually a private transfer. Our team will advise the most practical option.
Can I take a train from New Chitose Airport to Rusutsu?
No. Rusutsu does not have a train station, so travel is by bus, private transfer, or rental car from New Chitose Airport.
Do I need a rental car in Rusutsu?
In most cases, no. Rusutsu Resort is compact and well serviced by local transport. Rental cars can be useful if you plan to travel beyond the resort during your stay. There are convenience stores and some other shops a short walk from the resort.
